Why These Frozen Chocolate Banana Bites Are Healthy
These frozen chocolate banana bites are made with simple, real ingredients and are vegan, gluten-free, paleo, and soy-free. Here are some of the benefits.
Bananas. Bananas are full of nutrients including potassium, vitamin C, and manganese. Bananas are also relatively high in fiber, which helps your body process the natural sugar more slowly.
Coconut Oil. Coconut oil contains natural saturated fats that may HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels in your body. One type of saturated fat found in coconut oil called lauric acid, has antibacterial and other antimicrobial effects.
Cocoa Powder. Cocoa powder is full of minerals, including magnesium, the anti-stress mineral. Chocolate is also very high in antioxidants.
Pure Maple Syrup. Pure maple syrup is also high in antioxidants and other nutrients like riboflavin, zinc, magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
How to Make Frozen Chocolate Banana Bites
These frozen chocolate banana bites are super easy to make in three simple steps. First, make the homemade chocolate mixture. Then, toast the coconut while the chocolate cools slightly. And finally, dip the banana coins in the chocolate, arrange evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet, sprinkle with the coconut, and freeze!
If you’re not a coconut fan – or just want to speed up the process – simply skip the toasted coconut topping! Feel free to get creative with the toppings (see the original chocolate post for some topping ideas). Or you can’t go wrong with some simple flaky sea salt.
Once the frozen chocolate banana bites are frozen on the baking sheet, you can transfer them to another airtight container to save space in your freezer. Store the bites in your freezer.

Description
Frozen chocolate banana bites! An easy, healthy summer treat for whenever you’re craving something sweet (but not too sweet ;)). Made with healthy, simple ingredients like cocoa powder, coconut oil, maple syrup, and bananas, these frozen chocolate banana bites are vegan, paleo, and gluten-free.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup extra virgin coconut oil, melted (measure after melted)
- 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
- 2 medium ripe bananas
- 1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
Instructions
- Make the chocolate mixture. In a mixing bowl mix together the melted coconut oil, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Add in the cocoa powder and salt and stir until very smooth and all cocoa clumps disappear. Set aside.
- Toast the coconut. In a medium skillet over medium-low heat, toast the unsweetened shredded coconut until lightly browned and fragrant, about 3 to 5 minutes (watch carefully!). Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Assemble the banana bites. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using two forks, dip a banana coin in the chocolate mixture until all sides are coated and place on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining banana coins and then sprinkle with toasted coconut.
- Freeze. Put the baking sheet with chocolate-covered banana coins in the freezer for a few hours until the bananas are frozen. Once frozen, you can transfer the banana bites to an airtight container. Store in the freezer and enjoy!
Notes
Toppings. Feel free to omit the coconut altogether and use another topping of your choice! You can find some chocolate topping ideas here.
Storage. Store the banana bites in an airtight container in the freezer.
